What to Expect from Our Intake Session
Genetic counseling is a conversation not a test you have to commit to.

Each session is centered on your questions, your family story, and your goals, with thoughtful guidance that helps you decide what knowledge is truly useful for you.
TELEHEALTH GENETIC COUNSELING
GENETIC TESTING
Initial Conversation:
Understanding You
We begin with a one-on-one conversation to learn about your personal health history, family background, and what brought you to genetic counseling.
Questions & Goals:
What Matters Most to You
We focus on your concerns, questions, and goals; whether you’re seeking clarity, reassurance, or planning for the future.
Education & Guidance:
Making Sense of Genetics
Relevant genetic concepts are explained clearly and at your pace, so you feel informed and supported without feeling overwhelmed.
Considering Testing:
Thoughtful Decision-Making
If genetic testing may be helpful, we review options, benefits, and limitations together. Testing is never assumed, it’s a shared decision.
Results & Interpretation:
Meaning Beyond Report
If testing is pursued, in a follow-up session results are explained in the context of your health and family, not just a lab report, so the information is truly meaningful.
Next Steps & Ongoing Support:
Guidance You Can Trust
We discuss next steps, resources, and referrals as appropriate, and remain available for follow-up questions and support.

Our Philosophy
Scientia means knowledge. At Scientia Genetics, we believe understanding the science behind your genetics should feel empowering and provide knowledge you can use with confidence.
Genetic information is deeply personal. When explained with care, it brings clarity, supports health decisions, and helps individuals and families understand shared patterns over time.
Our mission is to help you discover your genetic story and understand how it fits into your life and health, transforming genetic science into meaningful understanding that supports you and your family across generations.
What is genetic counseling?
Genetic counseling is a conversation with a trained healthcare professional who helps you understand how genetics and family history may relate to your health. It focuses on education, guidance, and decision-making—not diagnosis or treatment.
What happens during a genetic counseling appointment?
You’ll discuss your health history, family history, and concerns. Your genetic counselor will explain relevant genetic information, answer questions, and help you understand possible next steps.
How does telehealth genetic counseling work?
Telehealth sessions are typically done by secure video from your computer, phone, or tablet. Your counselor can share documents, explain results, and discuss recommendations just like in person, often with the added convenience of talking from home
If I meet with a genetic counselor, do I have to get genetic testing?
No. Meeting with a genetic counselor does not mean you have to undergo genetic testing. Many people seek counseling to ask questions, review family history, or better understand their options. Testing is always optional and only considered if it’s appropriate and useful for you.
How does genetic testing work?
If testing is appropriate, samples are usually collected at home using a saliva or cheek-swab kit. Results are reviewed with you in a follow-up appointment so you understand what they mean and what to do next.
What will genetic counseling cost at Scientia Genetics?
Scientia Genetics is a self-pay practice. Visit fees are paid directly at the time of scheduling, with clear pricing shared in advance. If genetic testing is recommended, testing costs are billed separately by the laboratory and are not included in the counseling fee. We will review estimated testing costs with you before any testing is ordered.
